Spaced repetition: spread out your reviews

Spaced repetition distributes opportunities to review across separate sessions. It does not require a particular app or knowledge of the exact moment you will forget a concept.

Plan my review

Spacing is more than reopening a PDF another day

When you return to a topic, first try to remember: answer a question, reconstruct an outline or explain a process. Then check the source and correct what is missing. Spacing sessions and active recall are separate choices you can combine.

Research on spacing shows that a suitable interval also depends on the time until assessment. There is no sequence of days that is optimal for everyone and every subject.

An adjustable starting point

As an organisational example, review a block the next day, a few days later and the following week. This is not a universal schedule or a prediction of your individual forgetting.

  • If you cannot answer, revisit your understanding and schedule another check soon.
  • If you answer with doubts, keep a moderate gap and change the exercise.
  • If you can answer and explain clearly, you can leave a longer gap before the next practice.
  • As the exam approaches, reserve time to mix topics and check the whole syllabus.

How to apply it with WayOfLearning

Use banks, flashcards, missed questions and history to decide what to review. Record upcoming dates in your planner or calendar. The verified features support practice and reviewing results; this page does not claim an algorithm automatically schedules each card.

Keep your calendar from growing faster than your available time. Before adding a new block, check which pending sessions are really necessary and reduce redundant cards.

What to measure

Check whether you remember after an interval, not just immediately after reading. Assess whether you can justify your answer and apply the concept to a different example. A session’s results do not guarantee exam results, but they help you adjust your next review.
