Methods you can put into practice
How to review AI-generated flashcards before studying them
Generating cards can be quick; deciding which deserve a place in your revision requires judgement. The key filter is whether each card asks for a specific retrieval and has a verifiable answer.
Check the back against the source
For every card, locate the passage that supports the answer. Check figures, conditions and exceptions. If the AI adds information absent from the material, verify it separately or remove the card from that block.
Do not confuse a well-written answer with a correct one. A short sentence can omit a decisive condition and make you memorise an overly broad rule.
Check whether you can assess it consistently
Read the front and write down what your answer must include to count as known. If it requires a paragraph containing six ideas, split it or turn it into a broader explanation exercise.
“Describe this process” can be a valid task, but it is hard to score as a quick flashcard. “What changes at this step, and why?” defines a relationship more clearly. Include enough context so the answer does not depend on guessing the chapter.
Remove clues and repetitions
Check whether the front reveals the answer through initials, repeated words or an already-labelled image. Decide whether the clue is deliberate support for an initial stage or undermines what you want to assess.
Merge duplicates and keep variants only when they test something different. A direct card and a reversed card do not always add equal value: asking for a term from a definition can be more ambiguous than defining the term.
Add only reviewed cards to your bank
WayOfLearning’s confirmed workflow supports manual flashcards and compatible banks. Do not assume that any AI output imports directly: adapt the file to the accepted format or enter the cards manually.
After a session, review cards that produce answers that are hard to classify. Sometimes the problem is the card’s content rather than your memory. A small, maintained bank is more manageable than a growing queue of unchecked material.
