AI flashcards: from drafts to reliable cards

AI can help you draft cards. In WayOfLearning, the verified flashcard workflow covers creating or importing cards into banks and practising them; this page does not offer a built-in automatic PDF-to-flashcard generator.

Create my flashcards

A workflow that keeps your judgement involved

  1. Select a passage from your notes that you already understand.
  2. If you use an external AI tool, ask for question-and-answer drafts based only on that passage.
  3. Check every answer and remove duplicate or ambiguous cards.
  4. Create the reviewed cards in WayOfLearning’s manual question bank. Importing requires adapting the file to a compatible format.
  5. Answer before revealing the back and record your self-assessment.

A specific prompt for your AI tool

Using only this passage, suggest five flashcards. Each should ask about a single relationship or concept. Write a short answer and identify the sentence in the passage that supports it. If information is missing, say so and do not fill the gaps with assumptions.

This is an example instruction for an external tool, not an additional WayOfLearning feature. Do not include personal data or materials you do not have permission to share with that provider.

Three problems to fix

An answer that is too long: split the card if you need to recall five independent ideas. A question without context: add the topic or condition that makes the answer unambiguous. An unintended clue: remove words from the front that reveal what you are trying to remember.

“Explain all of glycolysis” requires an answer that is hard to score. One card about a specific step and another about its regulation make it easier to identify where you struggle, provided you check both against your notes.

What you can practise afterwards

Flashcards can share banks and sessions with multiple-choice questions and other formats. Self-assessment records how you answered. Organise later reviews according to your results and calendar: an automatic spaced-repetition scheduler is not promised.
